☀️ If My Characters Went on Summer Vacation…

Ever wonder what your characters would do if they weren’t caught in the middle of apocalyptic battles, romantic drama, or world-saving quests? I did too—and let’s just say, imagining them on summer vacation is now my new favorite writing warm-up.

So here it is: a little slice of sunshine, sand, and chaos—character-style.

🏖️ The Fire King Who Can’t Handle the Heat

Raven, my moody fire king, swore he’d never go to the beach. But his soulmate tricked him into a “strategic reconnaissance mission” that just so happened to take place near crystal blue waters. Ten minutes into the trip and he’s buried under a massive sunhat, hissing every time sunscreen touches his skin. (He also melted three popsicle stands before sunset. Oops.)

🍉 The Demon Possessor Who Loves Barbecue

Train—yes, the one possessed by a long-dead Demon King—is surprisingly chill when it comes to vacation vibes. He’s the first to fire up the grill, the last to leave the hammock, and somehow manages to look suspiciously cool in floral print. The Demon King inside him? Still sulking about the lack of conquest. At least until someone challenges Train to a game of beach volleyball. Then it’s on.

🌲 The Brooding Ranger Who Befriends Every Animal

Kael disappears into the forest the second the group reaches the mountains. Everyone assumes he’s brooding… until he returns with a fawn, a hawk, and three wild berries he insists are definitely not poisonous. He claims it’s research. I think it’s therapy. Either way, the forest creatures now worship him.

🎨 The Moon Priestess Who Starts a Camp for Creatives

Shara rolls up to vacation with a suitcase full of journals, tea blends, and paintbrushes. One hour later, she’s started a moonlit creativity retreat for stressed-out souls. She claims it’s “just something to pass the time.” Five days later, she’s leading sunrise rituals and handing out affirmation cards to strangers. The locals are thriving.

🏝️ A Vacation of Secrets, Laughter, and New Scenes

Putting my characters on vacation made me see them in new ways. Who’s secretly competitive? Who can’t swim? Who can’t help but turn a lazy day at the lake into an epic side quest? It’s a fun and surprisingly insightful exercise for any writer wanting to deepen character development.

✨ Try This Writing Prompt:

Imagine your characters on summer vacation.

  • Where would they go?
  • What would they pack?
  • What would totally catch them off guard?
  • And who’s starting trouble at the pool?

Bonus: Write it as a short scene or journal entry from their POV.

Let me know if you try this idea! I’d love to hear what chaos (or cuteness) your characters get up to on their break from destiny.

Happy writing ^_^
